                           Medical Coding is the process of taking a patients' healthcare information like medical procedures, treatment received, equipment used into alphanumeric codes. These information are taken form the doctors notes, lab results or any other test reports.

                                    Medical Coders use a set of previously assigned set of codes for coding purpose like ICD, CPT and HCPCS codes. International Classification of Diseases or ICD Codes are set of diagnostic codes, while CPT or Current Procedural Terminology are set of codes denoting procedures done by a physician or a healthcare professional, HCPCS Codes or Healthcare Common Procedural Coding System are set of codes denoting equipment used during healthcare process. 

                               ICD code E53.0 denotes riboflavin deficiency. Riboflavin deficiency can cause fatigue, swollen throat, blurred vision and depression. Primary riboflavin deficiency happens when the person's diet is poor in vitamin B2. Secondary riboflavin deficiency happens for another reason because the intestines cannot absorb the vitamin properly.

                                People with riboflavin deficiency are given high dose of riboflavin taken by mouth, until symptoms resolve. Supplements for vitamin B are also taken. Foods like milk and yoghurt are rich in riboflavin. Beef, chicken, fish, nuts and eggs are also good sources of riboflavin.

                                               During CPC Exam provided by AAPC, it is not necessary to by heart all medical codes as it is an open book exam. But it is better to learn them which codes and where to use them as they might cam in handy while working in an healthcare system.
